Los Angeles Lakers' Filipino-American guard Jordan Clarkson is still determined to play for the Philippine national basketball team, even though his eligibility for Gilas Pilipinas remains in question.
In an interview with Rahul Lal of CBS Los Angeles, Clarkson expressed his pride in his Filipino heritage and revealed that he continues to dream of one day playing for the country.
"We're going to make playing for the Filipino national team happen," he vowed. "It just comes with time, and being able to connect with those people."
Clarkson previously visited the country and even worked out with Gilas Pilipinas, but issues with his passport have prevented him from suiting up for the national team as a local player. The Lakers guard needs to have gotten his Philippine passport before the age of 16 in order to qualify as a local.
Otherwise, he can only suit up as a naturalized player. Gilas currently fields in center Andray Blatche as its naturalized player.
Clarkson is averaging 14.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals in his third season for the Lakers.
