MANILA – Alab Pilipinas goes into the Asean Basketball League semifinals carrying some measure of confidence as it takes on the Singapore Slingers in a best-of-three series starting Sunday.
The game takes place at OCBC Arena in Singapore at 4 p.m.
Alab’s morale is sky high especially after finally solving the league-leading Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions before closing the elimination round with a demolition of the Kaohsiung Truth.
"(He’ll bring in) leadership and a winning mentality," Cuan said. "We all know he's a winner. He's always been a winner… It rubs off to other players."
Alab and Singapore have already fought 4 times this season. The Slingers won the first two games before Alab got back at them twice following a change of imports.
Imports James Hughes and Sampson Carter will play a big factor in holding down Singapore’s big men, with Hughes likely to be pit against the Slingers’ Justin Howard and Carter against Xavier Alexander.
Both Howard and Alexander are prolific scorers, but they have had a tough time dealing with the Alab imports.
Meantime, Meantime, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Ravena are expected to lead the locals in scoring.
Parks and Ravena will have to spearhead Alab against the likes of Singapore’s Leon Kwek, Wong Wei Long and Delvin Goh.
Alab set a race-to-two joust against the second seed Singapore by securing the third spot after the elimination round.
The league-leading Long Lions, meanwhile, will tackle fourth seed Saigon Heat in the other semis pairing.
