Being the best team in the league invites a big bull’s-eye on one’s back.
Facing one of the schools that nearly beat them on the first go, the league-leading Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles need to treat their next opponent with extra caution.
Ateneo stakes its 7-game winning streak against Far Eastern University in UAAP women’s volleyball at the Arena in San Juan on Saturday.
Game time is at 4 p.m., after University of Santo Tomas takes on Adamson at 2 p.m.
“We really try to keep ourselves grounded even though we have a winning streak,” Jia Morado said.
“Coach Tai (Bundit) keeps reminding us na pinaghahandaan kami ng kalaban, and kung paano kami maghanda for the opponent, ganoon ang ginagawa nila for us.”
FEU would love to take the honor of being streak busters, especially since the Lady Tamaraws were close to downing the Lady Eagles in the first round.
Ateneo was down after 3 sets but rallied to win in 5 on February 12. That was the victory that propelled Tai and his crew to its current streak.
" 'Yun 'yung isa sa ginagawan namin ng paraan. Matagal na ito, 'yung consistency," FEU coach Shaq delos Santos said.
"Hopefully, before matapos ang second round, magkaroon pa kami ng magandang performance."
FEU, which has lost 6 straight to Ateneo, holds an overall 5-4 record, the same mark as UST.
