MANILA, Philippines – Defending UAAP women's volleyball champion De La Salle University will try to recover from its second loss of the tournament when it faces off against Far Eastern University (FEU) to open the second round of the UAAP Season 79.

The Lady Spikers ended the first round with a 5-2 win-loss record, as they dropped a four-set heartbreaker to arch-rivals Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles last Saturday.

On Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, they will try to bounce back against the Lady Tamaraws, whom they defeated 29-27, 25-22, 25-23, when they played in the first round.

Game time is at 4 p.m.

In the first game of the double-header, National University (NU) will try to break away from the logjam in the middle of the league standings when it battles winless Adamson University at 2 p.m.

After an alarming three-game skid put their Final 4 aspirations in question, the Lady Bulldogs righted the ship with a thrilling 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12 victory over University of the Philippines (UP) last Sunday to wound up with a 4-3 record at the end of the first round.

Coach Roger Gorayeb lauded his players for their solid display against the Lady Maroons, as Jasmine Nabor connected well with Jaja Santiago while Risa Sato and Jorelle Singh also delivered for NU.

"Winning this game will make them come back to their right senses," Gorayeb said. "Babalik 'yung tiwala nila. We have to work hard again and practice hard."

NU ranked sixth in the eliminations behind UP, FEU, and UST, and another misstep by the Lady Bulldogs could be fatal. They thus cannot afford to take even the hapless Lady Falcons lightly.

Adamson dropped all seven of its games in the first round, and 14 straight since last season.

They have won only one set all throughout the tournament, in its 22-25, 25-20, 17-25, 18-25 defeat to University of the East on Sunday.

In the men's division, titleholder Ateneo shoots for its eighth straight win against FEU in the televised 10 a.m. duel, while UP and La Salle take the floor at 8 a.m.
