MANILA, Philippines – After a sorry ending to her career in NCAA indoor volleyball, San Sebastian College star Grethcel Soltones is turning her focus to the sand court.
Soltones ended her collegiate career in indoor volleyball with a whimper, scoring 25 points in a four-set loss to Arellano University in Game 3 of the NCAA Season 92 Finals.
The loss – San Sebastian's third straight defeat in the Finals – ensured that Soltones ended her career with three MVPs, but not a single championship.
"I'm going to get it," Soltones vowed.
Soltones teamed up with Alyssa Eroa – the libero for the indoor volleyball squad – to secure the beach volleyball title in Season 91 against San Beda College.
As for her future in indoor volleyball, Soltones said she plans to join whatever team that her longtime coach, Roger Gorayeb, will handle.
"Siyempre, stick din ako kay Coach Roger," said Soltones, who counts the multi-titled mentor as her father figure.
She reveals that there have been offers made to her, but she will still go where Gorayeb goes.
"Kung saan si Coach Roger, doon ako. Hindi ko na papakawalan 'yan. Tatay ko na 'yan. Kung saan man siya pumunta, gusto ko sumama sa kanya," said Soltones.
