MANILA, Philippines – Veteran center Asi Taulava has decided to stay with the NLEX Road Warriors, team manager Ronald Dulatre told the league website on Tuesday.

Taulava was dissatisfied at his reduced role in NLEX under new head coach Yeng Guiao and has also struggled with injuries. The 43-year-old star demanded a trade last week, according to reports.

However, upon discussion with management and Guiao himself, Taulava has had a change of heart and rescinded his trade demand.

The team manager noted that Taulava's frustrations mostly stem from his injuries, which has cut down his minutes and prevented him from contributing as he usually does.

Taulava averaged 13.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for NLEX last season while playing over 31 minutes per contest. This year his numbers have dipped to 3.2 points and 3.2 boards as he has averaged only 14.3 minutes per game. He has started only three times, and missed a game due to migraines.

"He wants to contribute more to the team, but he cannot because he's not yet recovered 100% from his previous injuries," Dulatre said of Taulava.

"He just wants to be 100% in shape and try to help our team more," the official added. "And Coach Yeng is much willing to find other ways for him to contribute."

However, Guiao is also urging Taulava to "accept his role in the team," said Dulatre.

The Road Warriors have slumped to the bottom of the league standings with a 1-5 record in the PBA Philippine Cup. They have lost five consecutive games since winning their opener against Alaska in overtime.

They return to action on Saturday against TNT KaTropa in Pampanga.
