PBA: Red-hot San Miguel too much to handle for Blackwater

When the defending champions are clicking on all cylinders, there's nothing much their opponents can do.

June Mar Fajardo scored 25 points and Gabby Espinas chipped in 22 off the bench as San Miguel rolled past Blackwater 118-93 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Friday to advance to the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals.

Alex Cabagnot, who was wearing a protective mask for his surgically repaired nose, finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Beermen.

San Miguel has now won three straight games by 15 points or more.

"This is the game we want to have every game," San Miguel coach Leo Austria said.

San Miguel was up by as many as 29 points but the Beermen took their foot off the gas pedal in the fourth quarter and their lead shrank to 11, 101-90, with 4:23 left in the game.

Austria called his starters back to the floor to right the ship and San Miguel responded by stringing together 16 straight points to snuff out any hope of a Blackwater comeback.

Art dela Cruz led Blackwater with 16 points.

Mac Belo, who averages a team-high 17 points for Blackwater, was limited to only 4 points on 5 shots.
