MANILA, Philippines — The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Blackwater Elite will attempt to bounce back from recent defeat when they clash in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Game time is at 4:15 p.m.
Besides winning, the two teams are looking for a share of the leadership in the team standings.
"We want to put our last game behind us, but at the same time take the lessons learned to heart," said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia in the PBA website.
Blackwater coach Leo Isaac said: "After losing our game versus TNT last week, we will try our very best (on Friday) to bounce back and get a win versus Rain or Shine."
Garcia said Rain or Shine will have to be smart on offense and move the ball more.
"The problem in the fourth quarter [against Ginebra] was we dribbled the ball too much, we were trying to force shots, and we’re not looking at the bigs anymore," Garcia said.
Against Talk N Text, Blackwater failed to handle the potent duo of Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo.
Both Rain or Shine and Blackwater are in a logjam atop the standings with GlobalPort, Phoenix, San Miguel Beer and Talk N Text with identical 2-1 records.
In the main game at 7 p.m., the KaTropa will meet sister team the Meralco Bolts.
Coach Norman Black said his Bolts (1-1) will have their first real test this season against the KaTropa, a team they beat in the semifinal round of the recent Governors Cup.
"They are one of the strongest teams in the league so we must play our best basketball," Black said.
“Slowing down the high scoring combo of Jayson and Ranidel will be our main focus, but we will also have to keep track of their shooters. Once again, defending them will be the key.”
