MANILA, Philippines — Rain or Shine proved too much for Blackwater to handle, as the Elasto Painters coasted to a 107-93 win in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap led the way for the Elasto Painters with 15 points on five-of-nine field-goal shooting as Rain or Shine grabbed the top spot in the standings with its third victory in four starts.
"The difference in this game is we're moving the ball better," Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia said.
The Elite were up 19-16 in the opening period before the Elasto Painters seized the lead 39-37 late in the second quarter on a pair of free throws by Yap.
Rain or Shine broke away midway through the third quarter, a strong showing capped by Don Trollano's triple at the buzzer that gave the Elasto Painters a 75-59 cushion going into the fourth.
Raymond Almazan registered a double-double for the Elasto Painters with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Jewel Ponferada had 13 points, while Jeff Chan and Trollano added 11 each.
Aguilar paced Blackwater with 15 points, while Mac Belo and James Sena had 13 and 12, respectively.
It was Blackwater's second straight defeat in four games.
