If NLEX coach Yeng Guiao hopes to stop his team's recent slide, facing defending champion San Miguel may not be the best opponent to face.

On paper, at least.

The two teams battle each other in the PBA Philippine Cup in Cagayan de Oro at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

In its last game, NLEX bowed to Blackwater, 96-85, tumbling to a 1-3 record just above winless Mahindra.

What's upsetting, Guiao said, is it's not a lack of talent that's .

"If you know that you don't have the potential, then you won't get frustrated. But we know we have potential," Guiao said.

"With a few more corrections, a few more sermons, a few more adjustments, we can still get back in this conference."

A San Miguel team in sub-par form could help Guiao's cause.

The Beermen are the reigning Philippine Cup champions, but they're far from being dominant. They're coming off a close victory over last-place Mahindra.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria acknowledged his team was lucky.

"We cannot underestimate any team in the PBA right now, because everybody is competitive," Austria said.

"We're lucky at nanalo pa kami dito. Ang sabi ko nga, whether it is 50 points or one point, isang panalo din 'yan, kaya tatanggapin ko."

San Miguel is expected to lean once again on MVP June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos, while Carlo Lastimosa and Kevin Alas will spearhead NLEX.
