MANILA, Philippines — Mac Cardona won't be playing for NLEX when a new season of the PBA opens next week after the team didn't offer the prolific shooting guard a new contract.

Cardona, known as one of the most versatile scorers in the league but who struggled with personal issues, wasn't listed on the final roster the Road Warriors submitted to the league office on Thursday.

The 11-year veteran averaged career-lows in points, rebounds and assists playing 15 games for NLEX in the past season.

Cardona became a household name in the early 2000s playing a vital role for the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP.

He was chosen fifth overall by Talk N Text in the 2005 PBA draft, gradually morphing into one of the most reliable scorers in the league.

In 2010, Meralco acquired Cardona in a trade with the hope of building the team around him and getting its first year in the league off to a good start.

But Cardona couldn't duplicate his success from Talk N Text with his new club. He played for three seasons at Meralco, before moving to Air21 for a year and landing with NLEX.

In August, Cardona was in hospital for two weeks recovering from an overdose of prescription medicine.
