Obama takes dig at Warriors in Cavs' visit to White House

MANILA, Philippines — It was a bizarre 48 hours for US President Barack Obama.

One moment he was ready to pop the champagne for Hillary Clinton; the next he was delivering a speech asking Democratic supporters to respect the system that voted Donald Trump the next US president.

Then on Thursday, he welcomed Trump to the White House before hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers in the annual visit to the presidential residence by the reigning NBA champion.

"That's right. I said world champion and Cleveland in the same sentence," Obama said in introducing the Cavaliers.

Oh, the president was just warming up.

He thanked JR Smith's shirt "for showing up," a reference to the Cavaliers guard's topless celebration at the championship parade in June.

He ragged on the Golden State Warriors, who won 73 games last season to beat the Chicago Bulls' previous record of 72 wins. The Bulls went on to win the championship.

"By knocking off the Warriors, they cemented the 1996 Bulls as the greatest team of all time," Obama, a long-time Bulls fan, said.

When it was time for him to accept the token personalized jersey from the team, Obama remarked, "These sleeves get tight. Can I tear this out?" — a jab at James who ripped off his sleeves during a game last year.

The Cavaliers were enjoying themselves, but what's a full White House experience without a mannequin challenge with First Lady Michelle Obama.

The Obama era was considered a polarizing one by many, but we can all agree that we'll miss the coolest POTUS when his term ends in January.
