MANILA, Philippines — Jayson Castro has signed a three-year extension with Talk N Text, turning down several Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) teams that was apparently seeking his services.
Castro, twice named FIBA Asia’s Best Point Guard, agreed to a maximum deal worth P15 million.
The deal put to rest rumors that Castro was taking his act overseas, where at least three Chinese ballclubs have reportedly shown interest in his services.
"Triple max, ang saya,” said Castro after re-upping with Talk N Text, where he has been playing since 2008. (Triple maximum deal, I’m happy.)
The TNT star said previously that he was in touch with a team in the CBA.
"I'm still communicating pero iyung proposal talaga about sa contract, wala pa," Castro told ABS-CBN Sports last month. (I’m still communicating with them, but there’s no proposal yet.)
But Castro’s camp was apparently put off by a lack of concrete offer.
"Sabi namin kasi, kung walang offers by November 10 we will no longer have the CBA as option. Nag-lapse na yung deadline kaya we already accepted yung offer ng TNT," said his agent Danny Espiritu.
"Ang gusto kasi namin formal offer, hindi yung kakausapin ka lang na interesado sa inyo. May feeler lang na pinapadala."
