Tigers mangle Bulldogs to end 5-game slump

Marvin Lee fires a trey.

MANILA (UPDATED) - University of Sto. Tomas (UST) finally barged back into the winning column by bringing down National University (NU), 73-69, at the UAAP men's basketball tournament on Saturday at the Araneta coliseum.

With the win, the Growling Tigers were able to break from a five-game slump as Marvin Lee, Louie Vigil and Jon Sheriff did heavy damage against a reeling NU squad.

Lee fired 22 points, knocking down 5-of-7 attempts from the three-point area. Vigil tallied 20 points, seven boards and five assists, while Sheriff was equally productive with 19 points, four assists, and six steals.

"Sabi ko nga kay Marvin, itira mo lang. Mainit na mainit kasi si Marvin this game," coach Boy Sablan told ABS-CBN Sports.

But the Bulldogs managed to come within five points in the final three minutes, forcing Lee and Vigil to score quick baskets and push UST ahead 71-62.

Matt Salem led NU with 20 points, but this wasn’t enough to stop the Bulldogs from sustaining their fifth defeat in nine games.
