MANILA, Philippines – For the second consecutive season, Mapua Institute of Technology center Allwell Oraeme has won the top individual honors in the NCAA as foreign student-athletes dominated the league's Mythical Five in the Season 92 men's basketball tournament.
Oraeme, who last season won Rookie of the Year and MVP honors, will once again be named the Most Valuable Player after helping Mapua reach the Final Four for the second consecutive season.
Oraeme averaged 15.8 points, 19.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game, seemingly improving as the season went on after starting the tournament on a slow note due to various injuries.
Coming in second place in the MVP race is Arellano University's Jiovani Jalalon, who had a PAV of 57.50 points. Jalalon led the league in scoring with 21.0 points, 7.3 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
Jalalon, who is trying to lead Arellano to its first championship against San Beda College, is the lone local player in the Mythical Five.
University of Perpetual Help's Bright Akhuetie (56.00 PAV), San Beda's Donald Tankoua (51.55 PAV) and Emilio Aguinaldo College's Hamadou Laminou (49.06 PAV) round out the top five.
Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines' Mike Nzeusseu won Rookie of the Year honors with a PAV of 48.17 points, built on averages of 15.3 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. He nipped Arellano's Lervin Flores, who finished with a PAV of 41.61 points.
San Beda's Tankoua will be named Most Improved Player of the year despite competing in just 11 games this season. The Cameroonian big man missed nearly all of the second round due to an ACL tear.
Oraeme, Nzeusseu, Laminou, Akhuetie and Tankoua also make up the league's Defensive Team.
