MANILA -- The De La Salle University Green Archers survived a fourth-quarter scare from the gritty Adamson University Falcons, 86-79, to remain unblemished in the UAAP Season 79 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.
La Salle saw their 11-point advantage heading into the final period melt to just four points, 69-73, after a 14-7 spurt by Adamson, highlighted by two three-pointers from Jerrick Ahanmisi.
Rookie Aljun Melecio and veteran guard Thomas Torres, however, answered with a combined five points to build up their lead anew and provide some breathing space, 78-69, with four minutes left to play.
Kib Montalbo then knocked down a trey in last 46.7 seconds to create a 84-79 separation. Ben Mbala then nailed a pair of freethrows to punctuate the match, 86-79.

Mbala paced the Archers anew with 18 points and 10 boards, while Ricci Rivero and Aljun Melecio registered 14 and 11, respectively. La Salle improved their unscathed win-loss record to 8-0 even without the services of injured Jeron Teng.
"It was a close game. Even ganoon 'yung sitwasyon, hindi kami aalis sa sistema namin. 'Yung mga ganitong klase ng laro, gusto namin ilabas 'yung pagiging spontaneous ng mga bata," La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo said after the game. "You allow them to play basketball, make decisions and just go with the flow."
The Green Archers made a 13-2 run midway of the third period capped by a three-pointer of Rivero in the 4:08 mark to establish a 17-point cushion, 59-42.
Ahanmisi unleashed another solid performance with 27 points for Adamson's losing cause. Papi Sarr and Sean Manganti added combined 25 markers for the Falcons, who dropped to a 4-4 win-loss card.
"I always tell the boys that the more we win, the harder it gets. All of the teams are capable of upset game," Ayo said. "We will not going to be complacent."
