MANILA -- Adamson University maintained its hold on the fourth spot by vanquishing University of the East (UE), 71-79, and snap a two-game slump in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament on Saturday.
Papi Sarr powered the Falcons past the Red Warriors, firing 25 points to go with his 15 rebounds.
Jerrick Ahanmisi also had a good game for Adamson, tallying 17 points including four treys.
But Sarr made his presence felt inside the paint, and together with Ahanmisi and Robbie Manalang, propelled the Falcons to a 56-45 lead.
UE fought back with Alvin Pasaol hitting some big shots bridging the third and fourth quarter. Several treys from Philip Manalang and Paul Varilla also saw the Warriors threaten in the final period.
However, Sarr was able to provide enough cushion to keep Adamson ahead.
Prior to Saturday’s match, the Falcons suffered a 66-70 upset in the hands of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
Adamson now sports a win-loss record of 5-5, while dealing UE with its eighth defeat in 10 games. The Warriors are now close to being eliminated from the semifinal race.
