San Miguel labored in the final seconds of the game before beating NLEX, 114-110, Friday night at the Araneta Coliseum to march to the semifinals of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Beermen were up, 112-105, with 22 seconds to go when the Road Warriors came up with five straight points to pull within 110-112, with just 3.3 seconds remaining.

Fortunately, Elijah Millsap sank both of his free throws to thwart NLEX and send the defending champion to the semifinal round.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria said he hopes his players will learn their lesson for allowing NLEX to come back.

“When we get a double-digit lead, the tendency is to relax,” said Austria in the PBA website. “I told them before the game we scored 102 points per game but we give up 100 points.”

“We will not win if we don’t improve on defense,” he added.

Millsap finished with 39 points and 11 rebounds, while June Mar Fajardo ended up with an all-around performance of 17 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists.

Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter each scored 14 markers, while Arwind Santos tallied 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Henry Walker again led NLEX with 45 points and 17 rebounds, but could not save the Road Warriors from being eliminated in the title race.
